But rather than an authentic slice of early 1900s artwork, the image in question actually dates from 2009 and was drawn by DeviantArt user TankTaur.

The gaff was aired on Russia's Channel One and spotted by blogger Nikita Likhacehev.

It's not the first time this year that Russian media has slipped up. State-funded news channel Russia Today used a Metal Gear Solid 5 screenshot in a report on child soldiers back in July.

Metal Soldiers is an action and platform game in 2D in which you control a mercenary, and have to try to get as far as you can before the time runs out. On your way you have to pick up coins, kill enemy soldiers, and try to get the highest score possible.
In the beginning you only have one available character in Metal Soldiers. As you play and get coins you can unlock new ones, and improve the abilities of those you already have. Besides, even if you always start off with a handgun, you can get better weapons too, such as shotguns, machine guns, and missile launchers.
The gameplay in Metal Soldiers is very simple: with the virtual left stick you can move your character through the 2D scenario, and you can jump and shoot with the buttons to the right. If you press the shooting button when you are close to an enemy, you'll start a hand-fight instead of shooting your weapon.
Metal Soldiers is an action game in 2D that is simple and fun. Despite what it seems at first sight, it's not excessively similar to the classic game Metal Slug. In fact, the timer changes the game radically.
